At some point after you leave the city and make your way north on that stretch of monotonous grey asphalt dotted with all those rest spots that blur into one, you will take a right hand turn and veer off into the cool shade of green trees. You will slow a bit, rolling down your window to make it easier to fill your lungs with the scent of pine, of maple, of late summer corn, river rock and dandelion fluff. Yes, there is a hint of manure lingering there, too. The sun turns gold as you gaze across the fields and you will not be able to resist the urge to stick your head out the window to feel it’s kiss on your forehead. Suddenly the wind catches your hair, unleashing it in a wild tangle that sticks to your teeth, your eyelashes.

Like the majority of these flat pieces on paper and fabric that I have been working on lately, this is a sketch for a large sculptural installation that has been rolling around in my head for some time. It is slowly becoming tangible, working it’s way into the physical world.
Layers of paint, layers of crayon. An almost feverish building up on the pliable surface, and then the breaking down, the removing, the revealing. Rubbing raw with fingers and spit.
